The habitat of the Osprey includes large and small lakes and rivers. And almost all of these reservoirs are home to fish – a rich source of food for the park’s large feathered predator – the osprey.
The feathered predator feeds exclusively on live fish. A married couple, together with chicks, eats up to 0.9 kilograms of fish per day. While hunting, she is able to dive to a depth of one and a half meters. And since the osprey feeds on fish, it nests not far from the feeding place, while choosing tall trees for nesting, sometimes even old stand-alone ones.
The osprey nests in separate pairs, at a great distance from each other. The nest is arranged mainly on the highest pines – at the very top of the tree or slightly lower. It is built from thick branches that the bird collects on the ground or breaks off from trees. The bottom is lined with moss, dry peat, plant roots.
