The white stork (Ciconia ciconia) is a large bird species of wading birds on the family of Ciconiidae. Its plumage is predominantly white, with black wings. Adults have long red legs and a long straight red bill averaging 100-115 cm from bill tip to tail tip with a wingspan of 155-215 cm. Life expectancy is 20 to 30 years.
These birds live mainly in Europe in swampy areas, but for the winter they fly to the warm countries of Africa and India. The center of social activity for breeding birds is the nest. Outside the nesting territory, partners may ignore each other altogether. As a rule, the male returns first in the spring and occupies the nest, protecting it from other storks. A pair is formed on the nest.
